+world of warcraft: forever //

i need to mention wow forever before november 4th or i might not get the opportunity for quite some time. look i’m not going to kid myself and expect to play this for years. but i’m sayin’ there’s a chance. the amount i played in the beta is a little obscene for someone fully cognizant of it’s ephemeral nature. then again i did the same thing for warborne above ashes and now we’re really talking about ephemeral.

i’m extremely confident that i’m going to get a least a level 45 and a couple 30’s before i evaporate off this one, and i think blizzard has a real shot of cooking something up that i’ll return to regularly, even if i think it should be illegal for them to invoke the word horizontal. personally if i can stay around 99% relevant in pvp with gear from just pvp or crafting it’ll be a real challenge to lapse the sub. especially with this overlord addon grabbing me by the luas. i was really hoping forever would have some world pvp objectives built in but fuck it we’ll do it ourselves.

my biggest pain point was the server layering. it just feels super weird man. especially when the overlord addon is yelling that there’s some sick control-point pvp right down the road but all your layer musters up is 3 gnome rogues with their ambush keys taped together.

even outside pvp i’ve caught the view distance for mobs acting pretty wild. i first really noticed the issue flying around in dragonflight. i’d come in for an approach and the mobs and players hanging out there wouldn’t appear til mere moments from landing. it completely wipes out my immersion, and occassionally i’ve been getting that same vibe running around the barrens during the beta. it feels like i’m probing around the darkness except it’s entirely daylight outside.

big picture, i suspect the layers are worth the weirdness. i’d just like if someone could go ahead and figure out how to make it really sing. there are a few companies out there trying to make server meshing work in mmos but nobody has really hit a breakthrough yet. star citizen hasn’t been able to perfect it with a billion fucking dollars. can we expect a small indie company like blizzard to grasp it?

overall i had a blast with the beta and i’m hyped beyond belief for launch. new and exciting class changes are welcomed, the new quests feel right at home, and the graphics are stunning. it feels ridiculous to say that some foggy godrays and bloom are my favorite part but i had to stop and admire the scenery several times while questing through silverpine forest.

world of warcraft: forever launches on november 4th and takes my life with it.

for the horde and all that

lok’tar ogar type shit

+yarg
-clone hero // i’ve personally found yarg to be better than clone hero in every way. i’m just a casual player but i haven’t noticed any missing features or inferior gameplay. the ui has been much more intuitive, and most importantly, they have properly animated 3d background scenes! this is very important for me to passably emulate guitar hero, and it was a logistical nightmare with clone hero. if you wanted every song to line up with the stage performance then every song needed it’s own bespoke video which was intensely dependent on storage space, and even more intensely dependent on someone recording a whole ass video for each song. yarg’s characters automatically match up to every note and the lighting looks just wonderful (if the song has the stage lightning info included which it most likely will). now, i wouldn’t say the animation quality is.. excellent.. but that’s not what i’m looking at during a song anyway. it provides the perfect ambiance for me without breaking the ssd bank.
-heroes of might and magic: olden era // i had myself really hyped up over the dev’s focus on pvp, but not having asnchronous play completely wipes a game like this off my radar. i don’t have the patience or endurance to play for hours at a consistent pace with other humans who are depending on me to make a decision. i have no loyalty to the brand, and i definitely don’t have enough of a connection to this story to necessitate it’s offering. that said, they’ve done an absolutely incredible job making this one for the people that do.
+aniimo
-aniimo // this one really inhaled a good 3 days. it looked beautiful and performed well. it had a pvp option that i didn’t even play because i was too sucked up by the factorio (probably more like palworld but i didn’t end up playing palworld so i won’t assume. actually wait let’s fully talk about palworld here because my excuse for not playing it is completely ridiculous and i should be called out. i bought it for the big 1.0 release and pretty quickly refunded it literally because the difficulty options sent me into an existential crisis. i mean, did you see what it was wearing? i don’t even know how to begin. it has accosted my bare metal. pocketpair gives you complete autonomy over their numbers. palworld is schroedinger’s download: there’s a game in there or there’s not, but you won’t know til you evaluate your state of mind. it was a $30 dollar question that i was not equipped to answer.) style homestead minigame. the combat was cool and the aniimo were fun. the ui was sent from the devimon itself. ultimately i decided that even if i didn’t yet see any writing on the wall, it would appear soon enough on it’s mobile event driven architecture.
+enshrouded // i bought it. i know i’ll love it. i just can’t get myself to commit to starting such a hefty title. i really need to try pushing it to my friends. don’t you dare tell me about the difficulty options i’m not looking at them. ah shit i looked at them. fucking hell. do i want my weapon to have durability or not? if i wanted to design myself a game i would design myself a game. jesus take the slider.
